FLORENCE TRAIL COTTAGES THINGS TO DO

We are located in Hickory Nut Gorge - the beautiful area comprising the towns of Lake
Lure, Chimney Rock, Bat Cave and Gerton.
We are close to both Asheville and Hendersonville.
The Hickory Nut Gorge Chamber of Commerce lists many special events in our area.
There's a community calendar at www.sheville.org that also lists many events in Western North Carolina.
You have many scenic hiking, riding, rafting, and climbing activities available in the area. Here are a few that you might enjoy:
Chimney Rock Park: the awesome views and hiking opportunities are not to be missed.
The Cedar Creek Riding Stables is a public trail riding facility, nestled in the beautiful mountains of Lake Lure.
The Hickory Nut Forest is a conservation development of rare beauty nestled on the flanks of Little Bearwallow Mountain in magnificent Hickory Nut Gorge.
Here's a view taken from the Florence Nature Preserve in Gerton, NC which shows the stunning scenery of the area.
Here's a map set up by the Carolina Mountain Club which shows the hiking trails of the Florence Preserve.
The actual Bat Cave is owned by The Nature Conservancy and a private landowner, and is accessible only through the North Carolina Chapter’s field trip program from June through early August. Here's a link to the Nature Conservancy which gives some additional information about Bat Cave itself and about how to find out about their field trips there.
On the other hand, if you are interested in the town of Bat Cave, here is a community profile to get you going.
If you are interested in splitting your time with Asheville and the area around it, here are some links to get you going:
The Blue Ridge Parkway may not be the quickest way to get someplace, but it is one of the most beautiful.
The Biltmore Estate: when you're this near Asheville, you simply have to do it!
Romantic Asheville's restaurant guide is a good place to start to find someplace really great to eat.
